Guatemala Maragogype El Platanillo is a refined and sweet coffee with a fresh acidity and an elegant flavor profile. In the cup you will recognize notes of green apple and tropical fruit, which provide a lively and pleasant coffee experience.

This coffee is grown at Finca El Platanillo in the San Marcos region, on the slopes of the Tacaná and Tajumulco volcanoes. Thanks to the combination of altitude, volcanic soils and a shady growing environment, the coffee cherries develop a rich and complex flavor.

The Maragogype variety, known for its strikingly large beans, is known for its soft and refined character. Together with the sustainable approach of the plantation, this results in an elegant and high-quality specialty coffee.

Finca El Platanillo is located in San Marcos, in southwestern Guatemala, on the slopes of the Tacaná and Tajumulco volcanoes. The plantation covers 368 hectares, of which more than 300 hectares are planted with coffee under natural shade.

Since 1976, the plantation has been managed by the Coto Escobar family, who have a strong focus on sustainability and social responsibility. The plantation works together with the Efico Foundation and was the first coffee plantation in the world with climate-friendly certification.

In addition to coffee cultivation, the plantation also invests in the local community, including through a primary school that is accessible to both employees and residents of the region.

Guatemala is one of the most renowned coffee producing countries in Central America. Since the 19th century, coffee has played a central role in the economy and the country is known for its high-quality Arabica coffees.

The combination of high altitude, volcanic soils and microclimates creates coffees with a distinct character, often with clear acidity and complex aromas.

Regions such as San Marcos are among the top in Guatemala and produce coffees that are appreciated worldwide for their quality and consistency.
