Viva Sara has been working with the Satemwa tea plantation in Malawi for years. She provides, among other things, delicious mint tea. In a poor region where electricity is not always available, the plantation provides a lot of employment and therefore an income for the local population. The primitive conditions in which people live there did not always result in well-considered choices in the past. Due to the lack of electricity, trees were often quickly cut down to serve as a heating source. However, it also caused a lack of shade for tea and vegetable cultivation. Moreover, until recently, trees were simply cut down without providing replacements.
To this end, the Satemwa Tree Planting Club was created, a reforestation project that will run over several years and aims to practice thoughtful forestry. Jim Fortune, one of the plantation's managers, heads the program. This year, 1,600 additional trees were planted; 47 farmers from the region were involved in the planting. They received training on the economic benefits of reforestation, but also on essential matters such as composting, for example.
Because Viva Sara wants to contribute to sustainable entrepreneurship, it covered the cost of 500 trees. In addition to financing a school in Guatemala and a greenhouse in Honduras, we chose to support an African project in 2025. SUSTAINABILITY planting for the future planting for the future “this year 1,600 extra trees were planted, 47 farmers from the region were involved in the planting” “because viva sara wants to contribute to sustainable entrepreneurship, it covered the cost of 500 trees.
